My aim is for every dog to leave not only looking beautiful, but also feeling happy, relaxed, and cared for. From playful puppies to nervous or elderly dogs, every groom is carried out with kindness, compassion, and the individual attention your dog deserves.

PROFESSIONAL DOG GROOMING HEATHFIELD
Different coats, lifestyles and stages of life create very different grooming needs. Some dogs require regular professional haircuts, while others may simply need bathing, brushing or smaller trims to keep them comfortable and tidy.
Claire welcomes dogs from Heathfield to her peaceful Battle grooming cottage for a range of professional, one-to-one dog grooming services.
Nail Clipping
Face, Feet & Paw Trimming
Sanitary Trimming
Dog Spa & Pampering Treatments
Coat Maintenance Between Full Grooms
One-to-One Grooming for Nervous Dogs
So if you're searching for a dog groomer near Heathfield, Claire can provide anything from a complete professional groom to smaller maintenance that keeps your dog's existing style looking neat between haircuts.
FULL DOG GROOMING HEATHFIELD
Dog owners travelling from Heathfield can visit Claire at Cockapoo Cottage & Friends in Battle for a complete Full Dog Groom, individually planned around their dog's coat, condition and preferred finish.
Rather than applying the same grooming routine to every dog, Claire considers factors such as breed, coat texture, current length, lifestyle and how manageable the chosen style will be between appointments. This means a groom can be shaped around both how you'd like your dog to look and what their particular coat needs.
From preparing and thoroughly cleaning the coat to drying, brushing, trimming and final styling, your dog receives Claire's individual attention throughout their appointment in her peaceful grooming cottage.
For dogs with coats requiring professional trimming and styling, a regular Full Groom provides an opportunity to maintain the whole coat rather than simply tidying individual areas.
Your dog's Full Groom can include:
Two thorough washes using suitable grooming products
Warm blow drying and brushing
Nail clipping
Face, feet and sanitary trimming
A complete haircut and styling
Grooming adapted to coat type and condition
One-to-one care throughout the groom
PUPPY GROOMING HEATHFIELD
For a puppy, professional grooming introduces a completely new collection of experiences — from brushes and dryers to having paws, faces and coats handled by someone outside the family.
Claire welcomes puppies from Heathfield for Puppy Grooming appointments designed to make those early introductions calm and gradual. At Cockapoo Cottage & Friends, your puppy isn't surrounded by a busy room of other dogs while trying to understand everything that's happening for the first time.
Instead, Claire can focus on your puppy individually and introduce elements of grooming according to their age, coat and confidence.
If your puppy has a coat that will need regular professional grooming as they grow, becoming familiar with the process early can help establish grooming as part of their normal care routine.
A Puppy Groom can introduce your young dog to:
Gentle coat brushing and handling
Bathing and drying
Standing safely on a grooming table
Grooming tools and unfamiliar sounds
Face and ear-area handling
Feet, paws and nail handling
Spending time with their groomer
A quiet, one-to-one grooming environment
DOG BATH & TIDY HEATHFIELD
Between complete haircuts, coats can still benefit from professional bathing, drying, brushing and a little attention to the areas that become untidy first.
Claire's Dog Bath & Tidy appointments are available to dogs travelling from Heathfield who don't currently need a Full Groom but would benefit from a thorough coat refresh and essential tidying.
It's a useful maintenance option for keeping your dog's coat looking cared for between complete grooming appointments while retaining its existing overall length and style.
If you're happy with the overall length of your dog's coat and a complete haircut isn't yet necessary, a Bath & Tidy may provide the maintenance they need between Full Grooms.
Depending on your dog's coat and individual requirements, this can include:
Two thorough washes
Shampoo chosen to suit the coat and skin
Warm blow dry
Thorough brushing and coat preparation
Face and feet tidying
Sanitary trimming
Nail clipping
Individual one-to-one grooming
If you're unsure which appointment your dog needs, Claire can help you decide.
DOG TEETH CLEANING HEATHFIELD
Dogs visiting Claire from Heathfield can also have Emmi-pet ultrasonic Dog Teeth Cleaning as part of their ongoing grooming and oral-hygiene care.
Unlike conventional tooth brushing, Emmi-pet uses ultrasonic technology together with specialist toothpaste and operates without the usual brushing or scrubbing action. Its quiet operation also fits naturally with Claire's calm approach at Cockapoo Cottage & Friends.
Owners can discuss teeth cleaning with Claire alongside their dog's regular grooming appointments or as an individual oral-hygiene treatment.
Coat care is often the most visible part of grooming, but oral hygiene is another area owners may choose to maintain regularly.
Claire's Emmi-pet service provides:
Ultrasonic teeth-cleaning technology
No conventional brushing or scrubbing
Specialist Emmi-pet toothpaste
Quiet operation
An option for ongoing oral-hygiene maintenance
Individual attention from Claire
Please note: Teeth cleaning at Cockapoo Cottage & Friends is a grooming and oral-hygiene service and is not a substitute for veterinary dental treatment. If your dog has signs of dental disease, significant tartar, bleeding or painful gums, loose or damaged teeth, swelling or other concerning symptoms, please seek veterinary advice.
DOG NAIL CLIPPING HEATHFIELD
Some dogs naturally wear their nails down more than others, which means Dog Nail Clipping isn't something that needs to follow exactly the same timetable for every dog.
Claire welcomes dogs from Heathfield for nail care at Cockapoo Cottage & Friends, either alongside their usual grooming appointment or as a smaller maintenance service where available.
By checking your dog's nails as an individual rather than relying on a universal schedule, trimming can be carried out when it is actually required.
Activity levels, nail growth and the surfaces a dog regularly walks on can all affect how quickly their nails need attention.
Claire's approach to nail maintenance includes:
Checking your dog's individual nail length
Careful trimming where needed
Nail clipping alongside regular grooming
Smaller maintenance appointments where available
Patient one-to-one handling
Regular monitoring as part of their grooming routine
DOG SPA TREATMENTS HEATHFIELD
Grooming can be practical and still include a little extra pampering. For dogs visiting from Heathfield, Claire offers Signature Spa and additional grooming treatments that can complement their usual appointment.
These options allow owners to personalise their dog's visit beyond the core groom, whether that's additional coat care or an extra finishing treatment.
As with Claire's other services, treatments can be chosen around the individual dog rather than automatically adding the same extras to every appointment.
Claire's additional grooming options allow you to build an appointment around what your particular dog and coat would benefit from.
Depending on the treatment selected, options can include:
Signature Spa treatments
Additional coat-care treatments
Grooming finishing touches
Products appropriate for the individual dog
Smaller grooming extras
One-to-one care in Claire's cottage environment
DOG FACIAL, FEET & PAW TIDYING HEATHFIELD
Faces, feet and paws don't always stay tidy for as long as the rest of the coat. Hair can begin to look overgrown in these areas even when your dog's overall style isn't yet ready for another complete haircut.
Claire offers facial, feet, paw and sanitary tidying for dogs travelling from Heathfield as part of her smaller grooming and maintenance treatments.
This gives owners the option of addressing the areas that need attention while leaving the rest of the coat at its existing length.
Yes. Where appropriate, targeted grooming can help maintain particular areas without turning every visit into another Full Groom.
Smaller grooming treatments can include:
Facial trimming and tidying
Tidying around the face where appropriate
Feet and paw trimming
Sanitary trimming
Nail clipping
Additional individual grooming treatments
Advice for maintaining the coat at home
NERVOUS DOG GROOMING HEATHFIELD
A dog who finds grooming difficult may respond differently when the environment around them is quieter and their groomer can give them individual attention.
For owners travelling from Heathfield with nervous or anxious dogs, Cockapoo Cottage & Friends offers a one-to-one grooming environment in Battle rather than the activity of a busy multi-dog salon.
Claire takes time to get to know the dog in front of her and can adjust her handling and approach according to their temperament, previous experiences and response during the appointment. There isn't an expectation that every dog should progress through a groom in precisely the same way.
Claire's focus is on the individual dog and creating as calm and consistent a grooming experience as she reasonably can.
Nervous dogs visiting Cockapoo Cottage & Friends can experience:
One-to-one grooming with Claire
A peaceful cottage setting
No busy multi-dog waiting area
Patient and individual handling
An approach adapted around the dog's response
Familiarity with the same groomer
Individual attention throughout their appointment

Yes. Claire offers gentle Puppy Grooming to help introduce young dogs to professional grooming from an early age. Puppy appointments are designed to build familiarity with handling, brushing, bathing, drying and grooming equipment in a calm, positive environment.
We have two Puppy Packages; a Small Breed and a Medium Breed package. Please visit our Puppy Pricing or contact Claire for personalised advice.
I recommend introducing puppies to grooming as early as possible, ideally once they are fully vaccinated and able to go on walks
— usually around 3 to 4 months of age.
The earlier your puppy begins their grooming journey, the easier and more positive the experience is likely to be for them in the
future. Early introductions help puppies become familiar with bathing, drying, brushing, handling, and the sounds and sensations
involved in grooming.
I ideally like to see puppies every 2–3 weeks during their first 6 months, allowing me to gently build their confidence and help them
become relaxed, happy, and comfortable with the grooming process at their own pace.
My calm, one-to-one approach focuses on creating positive experiences filled with patience, reassurance, cuddles, and gentle
handling — helping your puppy grow into a confident little salon visitor for years to come.
Yes. Claire offers Emmi-pet ultrasonic Dog Teeth Cleaning to support your dog's ongoing oral hygiene. The system uses ultrasonic technology with specialist toothpaste and works without conventional mechanical brushing or scrubbing.
Dog teeth cleaning is a grooming and oral-hygiene service and does not replace veterinary dental treatment.
Yes. Claire offers Dog Bath & Tidy appointments for dogs that need bathing, brushing and freshening up without another complete haircut. A Bath & Tidy can also include nail clipping and tidying around the face, feet and sanitary areas where needed, helping keep your dog's coat clean, comfortable and manageable between Full Grooms.
Yes. Claire also offers smaller grooming treatments including dog nail clipping and face, feet, paw and sanitary tidying, helping keep your dog comfortable and well maintained between larger grooming appointments.
Absolutely. We specialise in calm, one-to-one grooming and take time to help anxious dogs feel comfortable. Let's book a meet and greet and discuss your dog's needs further.
Every dog is different, so grooming times can vary depending on your dog’s coat condition, temperament, age, and individual
needs.
As a general guide:
Bath & Tidy Appointments / Puppy Intro Sessions: approximately 1.5 to 2 hours
Full Grooms & Premium Pamper Appointments: approximately 2.5 to 4 hours
I work on a calm, one-to-one basis and never rush appointments. Some dogs are naturally relaxed and enjoy the grooming
process, while others — particularly elderly, anxious, or nervous dogs — may need additional comfort breaks, rest periods, reassurance, or extra time to settle.
Your dog’s comfort and wellbeing will always be far more important to me than rushing through an appointment.
As soon as your dog’s groom is completed, I will contact you to arrange collection.
Please kindly avoid arriving early or waiting outside the salon, as many dogs become excited when they see their owners and this can increase anxiety or make it difficult for them to settle and finish their groom calmly.
You can also check out our Places to Visit page to explore the lovely historic town of Battle if you choose to do so.
Your dog’s comfort, health, and wellbeing will always come first. Severely matted coats can be extremely uncomfortable and, in
some cases, painful for dogs, often pulling tightly on the skin and restricting airflow.
For this reason, heavily matted coats may need to be clipped short or fully shaved in the interest of your dog’s welfare.
Please note that de-matting is not included within the standard grooming price and is charged at £1 per minute. This additional fee
helps cover the extra time required, along with the increased wear and tear placed on grooming equipment.
Many breeds — particularly curly and long-coated breeds such as Cockapoos — are naturally prone to matting and require regular
brushing and coat maintenance at home between grooming appointments.
Where possible, I will always try to preserve your dog’s coat. However, under the guidelines of the Animal Welfare Act, prolonged
or severe matting can be considered a welfare issue and removing the coat may sometimes be the kindest and safest option.
I will always discuss this with you fully before proceeding and gain your consent prior to clipping or shaving a matted coat. I am also
happy to offer advice on home grooming routines, brushing techniques, and future coat maintenance to help achieve the style and
coat condition you would like for your dog.
Please note that severely matted dogs may require additional time and, in some cases, more than one grooming appointment.
